Haruki Murakami: SPUTNIK SWEETHEART

Sputnik is a well-placed metaphor in this novel that explores love, desire, and loss. There are loose ends in the novel, which add mystery to it, resulting in something that I really like. I'm not really sure what happened in the end, but I think that's really the point. Towards the near-end part of the novel, Michael Antonioni's movie, L'Avventura, came to mind. This is definitely not a copycat. The more apt word may be homage. And it worked, at least for me.

Last Saturday, I was browsing my library, looking for the next book to read. I blindly picked up this book, read the synopsis, scanned the first few pages, and, before i knew it, I was already done reading it. I was easily engrossed.
