Platero and I

Written by Juan Ramon Jimenez (1956 Nobel Prize winner in literature), Platero and I tells, in a beautifully constructed lyrical prose, consisting of simple sentences, the everyday ‘subtle adventures’ and interactions with the provincial world (they live in) of an old poet and his burro (a donkey), his best friend, named Platero.

The exquisite descriptions of even the mundane things around them, which are metaphoric at times, are enough to call this book a marvel of children’s literature for adults.
