Per Petterson: IN THE WAKE
I was quite confused with one story going forward and another one going backward. The style worked, although, at times, I got things mixed up; despite this, however, I could still discern that the novel (In The Wake by Per Petterson) exposes grief over a tragedy and recovering from it, efforts to reclaim sanity over a loss, and finding solace by the main character, Arvid, who is a writer. In the end, the novel left me cold. I guess it’s meant to be that way.
