Random Thoughts: May 10, 2010 Election

1. SOCO, a show in ABS CBN, featured, in its May 7, 2010 edition (actually it was already May 8, past 1 AM), election-related violence in the Philippines in the past. I watched only part of it since it was already so late. I caught a glimpse of a part of the show from which I gathered that the Plaza Miranda Bombing in 1971 had been traced to the notorious leftist Joma Sison, and not from the doings of Marcos. It was former senator Jovito Salonga, a Marcos critic, who made the conclusion. In a segment of the program, he shared that after the bombing, in which he was one of the victims, he researched on (who could be) the perpetrators of such act of terrorism. And, Joma Sison was it. The reason: Joma wanted the Communist Party to rule. This made me realize one thing: In the Philippines, people kill to serve the people. Well, it's not actually to serve the people these people fight for. It's the classic struggle for supremacy, for power - an ugly tradition in humanity that could be traced back to the barbaric ages.
2. Jamby Madrigal, in one of her political ads shown on TV a week before the May 2010 Elections, said with sure (or sore) conviction that we be ready for a miracle. The first time I saw the ad on TV, I almost threw the fork I was holding that time toward the TV. And then I laughed like there was no tomorrow. I was alone and I looked like a looney. What miracle was she talking about? Hadn't Elsa already revealed that there's no such thing as a miracle? And it cost her her life. Well, if Jamby wins, that's really a miracle. Because even if you don't believe in surveys, the survey figures consistently showing her not having a score greater than 1 % mean that her chance to win will remain to be a chance until a candidate is proclaimed.
3. In the latest SWS survey Loren Legarda got an all-time low at 12%. I feel sorry for her. Good for her. She gets what she deserve. I hate her.
4. Villar is losing in the surveys. Erap overtakes him; now, Erap is second to Noynoy. The combined efforts of Dolphy, Pacquiao and Willie Revillame never delivered magic to the dwindling popularity of Villar. That's a good thing. I hate Villar, too. He's an impostor. Marami na raw nagawa. Na ano? Corruption, I guess. Well, it's a good thing Erap joined the contest. He stole votes from Villar.
5. Villar's platform, i.e., to end poverty, is actually anti-poor. It's really an insult to the poor. Go figure. The to-end-poverty platform of Villar is contradicting his latest pambobola on TV - the one where he says overpopulation is okay. This is one desperate act to win the votes of Catholics who are supposedly against the reproductive health bill. Sad to say, the Catholics don't always follow what the leaders of the church suggest who to vote. Another thing: Villar's using his nonagenarian mother, wailing on TV, just to prove that he was indeed dirt poor in childhood, was so pathetic. I hated him ten times more for doing such desperate act. I hope he loses come May 10.
6. I hope and pray that the 2010 May 10 elections be really honest, orderly, and peaceful. Like Jamby, I will hope and pray for a miracle - that evil Gloria lose in her congressional bid.
