Movie No. 67 (2018): THE BREAKUP PLAYLIST

The Breakup Playlist (2015)
Director: Dan Villegas
Cast: Piolo Pascual, Sarah Geronimo, Rio Locsin, Dennis Padilla, Jett Pangan, Maris Racal, Diego Loyzaga
In Tagalog, with English subtitles

The movie begins with the breakup, followed immediately by the reunion a few years after. It's structured in such a way that the rest the entire movie shows the whys and hows and the broken relationship. Kudos to this relatively fresh take on a local romance movie where practically all movies of this genre follow a formula.

Sarah Geronimo and Piolo Pascual are good actors, specially the latter. In this movie, however, I never believed in the Piolo Pascual character. Piolo Pascual can sing. But, the character sings like Piolo Pascual. Therefore, I don't believe the stature the character attains in the music business, with a voice like that. At least, Sarah Geronimo, who is great singer, can effectively lend the character a fake voice that appears to sound flat and tentative in some scenes.

Local romance movies are predictable. Practically all ends in a happy note, where the ill-fated lovers eventually end up in each other's arms. This movie is not exempt. But, what I never really like about the movie is how it happens. Sobrang pilit. Like, huh?!!

By the way, I saw the movie on TV.
