Movie No. 3 (2020): ULAN

Ulan (2019)
Director: Irene Villamor
Cast: Nadine Lustre, Carlo Aquino, Marco Gumabao, Josef Elizalde
In Tagalog, with English subtitles

As children my cousins and I believed that whenever there was rain and sunshine at the same time a tikbalang couple were getting married. Old people would scare us with this made up story to keep us captive inside the house at least until the weather phenomenon ended. We believed it.

This movie brings back those innocent times called childhood. But, the movie is not entirely about that. But the main character (Maya) was also told similar story about tikbalangs getting married despite uncooperative weather condition. As a child, she believed actually witnessed one such union. This belief she acquired in her childhood will affect her beliefs when it comes to love and unhappiness. The movie is a love story not much different from any love stories we saw in past movies. But, this unique infusion of belief system one developed as a a child is something that's refreshing.
