Summer Midnight Filmfest (Part 1)
I've started to watch 1 film every midnight since two weeks ago. I've started with the environmental documentary, Home. That would be the opening film in my Summer Midnight Film Festival. I named it as such since it's summer here and I watch only after 12 midnight, in my apartment, alone. The next two films were The Class (2008) from France and Baran (2001) from Iran. My reviews of these three films have already been posted in this blog. I will rate each of these three films 4.0/4.0.
The following are the reviews of the next two films that I've seen.

THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO
Dir: Woody Allen / Cast: Mia Farrow, Jeff Daniels, Danny Aiello
Year Released: 1985
The film tells the story of Cecilia, a clumsy waitress, whose only escape from the difficulties her marriage to her unemployed husband and the Depression have engulfed her was the movies shown in the local movie theater. One day as she is watching “The Purple Rose of Cairo” at the local theater for the nth time, the handsome character Tony Baxter in the movie walks out of the screen, declares love to Cecilia and takes her to a “real” adventure outside the screen. Meanwhile, the actor Gil Shepard who plays the Tony Baxter character is worried of the consequence of the incident to her future as an actor. And then, the fun begins.
The movie is smart; it forces one to meditate between illusion and reality in the face of life’s real challenges and difficulties. The actors – Mia Farrow as Cecilia, Jeff Daniels as Tony Baxter and Gil Shepard, Danny Aiello as the husband - are perfect for their respective roles.
