Camilo Jose Cela: MAZURKA FOR TWO DEAD MEN

The novel narrates, in a novel way, the experiences of the people in a backward rural hamlet of Galicia, Spain, during the period in between two deaths: that of Baldomero Mavis Ventela or Lionheart, in 1936, during the start of the Spanish Civil War, and that of Fabian Minguela or Moucho, in 1940, when the war ends. The title refers to the type of music, mazurka, the blind accordion player had played only two times, which were during the said deaths.
.
The narrative style used in Mazurka For Two Dead Men by Camilo Jose Cela, 1989 Nobel Laureate, is, for me, too experimental, although not too difficult. I had to read it slowly to experience it and to give a close look at the many interesting characters that liven up the pages of the book.
