The Mirror

Zerkalo (The Mirror), Directed by Andrei Tarkovsky
In Russian with English Subtitles

The film is almost without plot. It recounts the childhood memories of a dying 40-year old man. Tarkovsky uses in this film a mix of beautifully-shot moving images, real footages, and poetry in a style similar to what literature calls stream of consciousness, which makes the narrative quite difficult. Difficult, here, does not mean that the film is incomprehensible. This is pure cinema in a lot of ways. This is not for those who watch movies for entertainment.

This is the third Tarkovsky film that I've seen; the first two being Andrei Rublev and The Sacrifice. Watching Tarkovsky's works is a different, difficult, but gratifying experience.
