Film Review: The Secret World of Arrietty

Kari-gurashi no Arietti (Hiromasa Yonebayashi, 2010)
In Japanese, with English subtitles
From Studio Ghibli

Arrietty Clock and his parents are 4-inch-tall people who live anonymously in the residence of a family of normal people. They Clocks call themselves 'borrowers' because they borrow simple items (like sugar cubes) from their 'host' family to make their home. Their existence will be threatened when a 12-year-old boy discovers them and develops friendship with Arrietty.

I find the film entertaining. Although I will always prefer this film to some of the films from Disney, I find it wanting. It could have been a lot better if the world of the tiny people were explored further. Nevertheless, this is still a good addition to the wonderful Studio Ghibli collection. It's very pleasant to the eye,
