Gabriel Garcia Marquez: THE GENERAL IN HIS LABYRINTH

The final journey of General Simon Bolivar along Magdalena River, leading to his death, was one of the least documented events in the history of South America and Simon Bolivar himself (as the liberator of South America). Gabriel Garcia Marquez interpolates and extrapolates from the events in record, though scant, and his genius has transformed the otherwise obscure part of history into an entertaining, sometimes grueling, journey into the general's labyrinth, in which he recollects his days of glory and laments on lost battles and dreams.

I would have appreciated this book more had I adept knowledge on the history of South America. But I can't deny that Gabriel Garcia Marquez writes with same mastery he has inscribed in his other novels.
