The dramatization of the meeting of the two Popes, the present and the future at the time at which the meeting unfolds, is the central narrative of the movie. This 'holy encounter' is, of course, fictional. However, it is effectively used as a vehicle to examine the past of the two popes from which we can extrapolate their present and future decisions.

The performances of Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce are complementary. These actors effortlessly essayed the human inside the robes.
