For a deal, a man submits himself for detention in the Vertical Self-Management System (a.k.a The Platform). While in the system, he meets inmates of curious personalities, with interesting backstories and reasons for being. However, it is the system of rationing foods to the inmates that shocks him most.
I see the movie as a metaphor for inequality in a capitalist economy. We don't see the 'administration' of this facility, which adds to the mystery and overall atmosphere in the claustrophobic setting. The intent of the movie is clear if one pays attention to some details except for the conclusion that, in my opinion, is open for interpretation. My only issue is the excessive display of gore, violence, and other visually offensive images. Saying this, I do not recommend the movie for the fainthearted.
