Movie No. 79 (2018): JULES AND JIM

Jules and Jim (1961)
Director: Francois Truffaut
Cast: Jeanne Moreau, Oskar Werner, Henri Serre
In French, with English subtitles

The movie depicts an unconventional friendship and romance, even by today's standards, involving three friends (or lovers) - Catherine, Jules, and Jim. It suggests that love can be boundless (and really unselfish) for some people who can handle it that way. No drama, just living life to the fullest. There are no questions on morals. There is no suggestion of sacrifice. Their carefree dispositions, negligent attitude toward a world war in the backdrop, and being unmindful that their menage a trois is doomed to fail make them even more interesting characters in a rich narrative.

The movie is cinema at its finest.
